Albert Greer is enjoying a distinguished career as a tenor soloist, choral
conductor, and musical educator.
As a tenor soloist, he has performed from coast to coast in Canada as
well as abroad, including appearances with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir,
the Hamilton Philharmonic, the London Fanshawe Chorus, the Tudor Singers
of Montreal and the Atlantic Symphony.
Much acclaimed are his renderings of the dying swan in Carl Orff’s
Carmina Burana, and the title role in Benjamin Britten’s Saint Nicholas.
He has also achieved great distinction with his performance of the role
of Evangelist in the Passions of J.S. Bach. He has performed this role
in the St. John Passion twice on the CBC network as well as in London,
Halifax and Dunedin, New Zealand.
Mr. Greer has directed a number of choirs including the award-winning
Bathurst Heights Secondary School Choir, the North York Teachers’
Choir, the North York Chorus, the Ontario Youth Choir, and the Toronto
Youth Singers. He has been the Artistic Director of The Cellar Singers
since 1977. As well, he is the Organist and Choir Director at St. James’
Anglican Church in Orillia, and taught in the Music Department at York
University. Mr. Greer is in demand as an adjudicator of both choral and
solo singing, and as a clinician for singers and choirs.
Choirs Ontario awarded the 2002 President’s Leadership Award to
Mr. Greer in recognition of his significant contribution to choral music
in Ontario. He is the first recipient in the biennial category of ‘performer
or director’.
